Listening & Spoken Language Provider
JOB TITLE: LSL Provider REPORTS TO: LSL Program Coordinator
STATUS: Contract Full-Time LOCATION: Indiana Campus
Summary: For nearly two centuries, St. Joseph Hearing + Speech has delivered exceptional listening and spoken language solutions for children with hearing loss, reflecting the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
The LSL Provider is an integral member of the faculty and school instructional team. Working under the direction of the LSL Program Coordinator, LSL Providers will provide intervention to address individual student progress in the areas of audition, speech, and language. This position follows the academic calendar of 194 contract days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Demonstrates competency in the evaluation of student present levels in the areas of audition, speech, language, and pragmatic skills.
•Works collaboratively to assess students, develops annual goals for assigned students, and tracks monthly progress toward goals.
•Demonstrates knowledge of physical, cognitive, and linguistic variances in children with hearing loss who have accompanying learning challenges.
•Supports school staff with duties as assigned including bus duties, lunch, and recess.
•Participates in team and staff meetings, following schedules assigned by supervisor and Sr. Director of Programs.
•Maintains and ensures confidentiality of all student records including attendance, student progress monitoring, and reports.
•Prepares IEP reports and requirements per standards set by the department.
•Maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning, integrates audition into all therapy activities, and facilitates child-centered therapy sessions with enthusiasm.
•Actively participates in school events, committee assignments, Open House, parent education nights, and other special activities when appropriate.
•Uses appropriate behavior management strategies for each child as set forth by St. Joseph policies and procedures.
•Upholds the professional, moral, and ethical standards of the school.
•Actively supports the mission and values of the school.
•Maintains open communication with parents via observations, phone calls, and email correspondence.
•Educates parents about speech, auditory, linguistics, and oral motor development.
•Completes daily amplification checks with students, demonstrating knowledge of each student’s audiologic needs.
· Maintains professional standards (including applicable ASHA, residing state SLP license, teaching certification, Medicare provider status, LSLS certification, etc.) through attendance in workshops, participation in appropriate professional development opportunities and reading professional literature.
· Provides mentorship and guidance to practicum students, student teachers, and/or volunteers.
•Completes appropriate documentation and evaluation on those assigned as mentees per guidelines set by St. Joseph Professional Learning Coordinator.
· Performs other duties related to the academic program as assigned.
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
· Minimum of a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology, Deaf Education, or related field.
· Possess a SLP or teaching license and be eligible for certification in the state of Indiana, and appropriate Professional Boards.
· Must demonstrate a desire for ongoing professional development, including Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certification.
· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
